”Research and Innovation Gala” – a traditional event through which the notable achievements of researchers and their contributions to the development of medical and pharmaceutical sciences are appreciated – was organized on October 21, 2025, on the ”Days of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy”. The ceremony took place during the extended meeting of the University Senate and included the awarding of diplomas to scientific and teaching staff, resident physicians and students, who excelled in the top 10 performance competitions.
Thus, the laureates of the Excellence in Research category are: University Professor Mihail Todiras, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Health and Biomedicine Research Center, National Institute for Health and Medical Research; University Professor Stanislav Groppa, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician, Head of Department of Neurology No. 2; Associate Professor Dumitru Chesov, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, Discipline of Pneumology and Allergology; Associate Professor Svetlana Agachi, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Discipline of Rheumatology and Nephrology; Associate Professor Silvia Melnic, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of the Department of General Chemistry; Associate Professor Gheorghe Placinta, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Infectious, Tropical Diseases and Medical Parasitology; Associate Professor Greta Balan, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, head of the Discipline of Microbiology and Immunology; Associate Professor Ala Paduca, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Ophthalmology Department, Associate Professor Jana Chihai, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Mental Health, Medical Psychology and Psychotherapy Department; University Professor Evghenii Gutu, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, ”Nicolae Anestiadi” General Surgery Department.
In the category of Resident Physician with the highest rating in research, the following students were nominated: Mihaela Stoica, 3rd year, Internal Medicine specialty; Ecaterina Munteanu, 3rd year, Internal Medicine specialty; Artur Munteanu, 3rd year, Emergency Medicine specialty; Eugeniu Valic, 2nd year, Oncology specialty; Camelia Glavan-Husciuc, 3rd year, Infectious Diseases specialty; Constantin Tataru, 4th year, Urology specialty; Andrei Tirbu, 4th year, Urology specialty; Dorin Gorohovschi, 4th year, Urology specialty; Alina Nicorici, 3rd year, Forensic Medicine specialty; Radu Colta, 4th year, Urology specialty.In the category Student with the highest rating in research, the following were nominated: Daniela Ciobanu, master's student, 1st year; Bogdan Marandiuc, 6th year, Medicine program; Maria Patranac, 2nd year, Dentistry program; Cezar Zagorneanu, 6th year, Medicine program; Anaswara Vijayakumar, 6th year, Medicine program; Pavel Babin, 6th year, Physiokinetotherapy and rehabilitation program; Mukherjel Tishya, 6th year, Physiokinetotherapy and rehabilitation program; Ion Dumbraveanu, 5th year, Physiokinetotherapy and rehabilitation program; Nizamudeem Fathima, 5th year, Physiokinetotherapy and rehabilitation program; Daniela Fornea, 5th year, Pharmacy program; Alina Cereniuc, 5th year, Pharmacy program.
The Research and Innovation Gala also included the awarding of the winners of the 2025 Professor of the Year contest within Nicolae Testemitanu University. Thus, in the University Professor category, Liliana Groppa, Head of the Discipline of Rheumatology and Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine, was designated. In the Associate Professor category - Andrei Bradu, Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology, and in the Assistant Professor category - Svetlana Cociu, Hygiene Discipline, Department of Preventive Medicine.
In the context of the anniversary events, the rector congratulated the university community on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of Alma Mater, expressing appreciation and gratitude for the achievements and contributions of each member to the development and promotion of higher medical and pharmaceutical education in our country.
The Research and Innovation Gala event also inaugurated the works of the anniversary Scientific Congress "80 Years of Innovation in Health and Medical Education", which this year was structured around eight thematic scientific areas, including 95 events in sections. "The event brought to the forefront the achievements of the University's advanced research and education, facilitated interdisciplinary dialogue and created new bridges of collaboration between researchers, teachers, healthcare professionals and international partners. It is a historic moment in which we celebrate not only the past, but also the innovative strength of our University, which has become a regional and educational landmark in medical research and education. Looking back, we can declare that the University has come a remarkable way", said Jana Chihai, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation.
The anniversary scientific congress took place from 20 to 22 October 2025 and brought together 5790 people from 17 countries, including speakers and active participants in scientific conferences, symposia and research workshops. The event also included innovative formats, such as Live Research Lab, Creative Ideation Session, research courses and debate forums.
